November 15, 1923 – January 27, 2019
Marie "Rachel" Zoccola, of Vienna, OH, formerly a longtime resident of Sharon, passed away surrounded by family Sunday morning, January 27, 2019, in Sharon Regional Medical Center, under the comforting care of hospice. She was 95.
Mrs. Zoccola was born November 15, 1923, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Fred and Rose (Merola) Conti. She attended Sharon schools.
A homemaker for many years, Rachel worked at the Boston Store, Sharon, and later as a janitress at the Sharon School District for 14 years, retiring in 1980.
A devout Catholic, Rachel was a longtime member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, and faithfully said her daily prayers and prayed the rosary.
She was a member of the Public School Employee Retirement Group.
Rachel enjoyed playing cards, completing crossword puzzles and watching her daily soap operas. An exceptional cook, she also loved to bake, especially her famous Christmas cookies for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Her husband, Frank J. Zoccola, whom she married April 6, 1939, passed away November 4, 1985.
Fond memories of Rachel will be cherished by four grandchildren, Matthew (John) Zoccola, Alison (Brant) Harper, Lori (Hamilton) Jones and Suzanne (Matthew) Mudrey; six great grandchildren, Cameron, Courtney and Mackey Jones; Collin and Reese Harper; and Christian Mudrey; a son-in-law, Jerry (Marilyn) Haniak; a daughter-in-law, Jane Zoccola; and special niece, Shelly (Ted) Stewart; several additional beloved nieces and nephews; a son, Francis J. Zoccola.
In addition to her husband and parents, Rachel was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosemary Haniak, six sisters, Mary Paoletta, Louise Knotts, Rose Dorus, Julia Yannarella, Grace Mistretta and Lucy Zakrezewski; three brothers, Joseph, Fred and Anthony (Betty) Conti.
The family would like to thank the staff of Kindred Hospice, New Castle, and Sharon Regional Medical Center for the kindness and exceptional care.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday (2-2-19) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State Street, Sharon.
Mass of Christian burial will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment : St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
