Obituary

Marie C. Borawski of Sharon passed away at 3 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015, in the intensive care unit of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 82. Mrs. Borawski was born March 30, 1933, in Farrell, a daughter of John and Anna Valencik Kopnicky. She was a 1951 graduate of Farrell High School and attended secretarial school. Marie retired from the former St. Joseph Parochial Grade School, Sharon, where she was a secretary for more than 25 years. A lifelong area resident, she was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. She was also a member and volunteer at Arc of Mercer County for many years. Marie enjoyed traveling and watching sports, particularly her children's athletic events, and was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns. She was a den mother for Boy Scouts of America when her sons were involved with Scouting and very involved with her high school class reunion committee. Surviving are: her husband of nearly 60 years, Thomas Borawski, whom she married Sept. 10, 1955, in the former St. Ann's Church, Farrell; two daughters, Kathleen Heller and her husband Rich, State College, Pa.; and Susan Borawski, Sharon; two sons, Daniel Borawski, Sharon; and Thomas Borawski and his wife Susan, Marysville, Ohio; and two grandchildren, Thomas James "TJ" and Rebecca Borawski. She also leaves two sisters, Anna Matvey, Jefferson Township; and Elizabeth "Betty" Ferry and her husband Vincent, in Florida; two sisters-in-law, Marge Borawski and Betty Borawski, both Hermitage; and several nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146; or Whole Life Services, 1565 E. State St., or Arc of Mercer County, 850 N. Hermitage Road, both Hermitage, PA 16148. Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday (4-2-15) in J. BRADLEY McGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Service: Due to Holy Week, a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday (4-3-15) in the funeral home with the Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, officiating. Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage.
