Obituary

Margaret "Maury" O'Neill, 83, of Sharon, PA, passed away peacefully Monday evening June 23, 2025, in her home under the wonderful care of hospice services.

Mrs. O'Neill was born on June 21, 1942, in Sharon, a daughter of the late William and Mary Phyllis (McCarthy) Conlin.  Maury was the organist at Sacred Heart Church from 5th grade through high school and played the piano all over the Erie diocese in competition through her early years. She was the Sacred Heart Church May Queen in 8th grade.  She attended Sharon High School and was a 1960 graduate of Sharpsville High School.  Following high school, Maury studied at the former Villa Maria College, Erie, PA, and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Youngstown State University.

She married her beloved Thomas Patrick O'Neill on May 30, 1964, in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.  He passed away on October 28, 2006, but she kept his memory alive on a daily basis as theirs was a love like no other.

Prior to becoming a mother, Maury was employed as a 3rd grade teacher for the Sharpsville School District.  When her children were older, she returned to teaching, working as a substitute for many local public and parochial schools.

Maury was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon, but attended many different parishes with her husband and family over the years.

She looked forward to attending weekly Mass and was a woman of deep, unwavering, and admirable faith.  Her spirituality and relationship with Jesus meant the world to her, which was inspiring and a comfort to those around her.  She loved listening to music, decorating her world, and had such great style, class, taste, an eye, and aesthetic.   She was elegant, gracious, and refined, yet authentic, real, and down to earth.  Her gift of gab brought her many friends in all stages of life and drew people like a magnet wherever she went.  She was inherently interested in whoever she had the pleasure of meeting.  She was a terrific storyteller, had a mind as sharp as a tack, and an unending sense of humor, wit to match, continually and unintentionally making those around her laugh.  She loved politics and had a global world view, driven by her concern and compassion for the world we live in with all of its suffering.  She had a heart and soul of gold.

She is survived by her three children, a son, Timothy O'Neill, of Sharon; two daughters, Jennifer Kuhn and her husband, Robert, of Sharpsville, and Shannon O'Neill, of Sharon; three grandchildren, RJ Kuhn and his wife, Tiffany, Josey and Jacob Kuhn; two sisters, Jane Skarosi and her husband, Louis "Pudge", of Naperville, IL, and Lynne Ross and her husband, Sean, of Carol Stream, IL; and a brother-in-law, William O'Neill and his wife, Jane, of Sharpsville; a sister-in-law, Camille Conlin, of Howland, OH; as well as several loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Maury was preceded in death by a brother, William Conlin; twin sisters, Carol and Karen Conlin who died shortly after birth; two brothers-in-law, Jack O'Neill and his wife, Nilla, and Dan O'Neill and his wife, Ceya.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146.

Out of respect for and to honor Maury's wishes, there are no services.  A Celebration of Life will be held by family at a later date.
