Obituary

Margaret "Marge" Mikis, a former longtime resident of W. Park St. in the Patagonia section of Hermitage, passed away at 11 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2019, in Beeghly Oaks, Boardman, Ohio, after an extended illness.  She was 84.

Mrs. Mikis was born December 31, 1934, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Melvin and Ellen (Connelly) McMath.  She attended the former Sacred Heart Parochial Grade School, Sharon, and was a 1953 graduate of Sharon High School.  A lifelong area resident, Marge retired from the former Donnelly's Golden Dawn, Hermitage, where she was employed for 25 years.

She was an active member of Fifth Avenue Community Church, Youngstown, where she volunteered with the Food for the Poor, worked in the nursery, helped with the clothes drive and attended Bible study.

Marge cherished her family who were the center of her life.  She lovingly took care of family members and celebrated many happy occasions and holidays with them.  She also enjoyed cooking and playing cards with her cousins.

Her husband, Floyd G. Mikis, whom she married September 5, 1953 in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, passed away May 27, 2016.

Surviving are: a daughter, Sue Purfey and her husband James, of Boardman; two grandchildren whom she adored, Stephen Purfey and his wife Jessica and their son Mark; and Courtney Purfey; a brother- and sister-in-law, John and Grace Bernat, of Farrell; a sister-in-law, Fritz McMath, of Hubbard; and several loving nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Marge was preceded in death by her step-father, Clare Dute; a son, Stephen "Skip" Mikis; a sister, Alice Anderson (Dale); and two brothers, Mickey McMath (Josephine) and Charles McMath (Dorothy).

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2019, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2019, in the funeral home, with Rev. Mary Hall, officiating.
