A lifelong area resident, Mr. Paulson was born May 18, 1932 in Sharon the son of Martin David and Constance Henry Paulson.  He was a 1951 graduate of Sharon High School and attended Westminster College, New Wilmington.

Gene began working as a photographer at the age of 19 for the Sharon Herald where he worked for over 35 years, retiring as the Chief Photographer.   He was also a free lance photographer who captured many special moments at weddings and family events throughout the Shenango Valley as well as photographing for many years the new born babies at the former Sharon General Hospital.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the former Masonic Lodge #668, Sharon and the New Castle Consistory.  He was a member of the National Press Photographers Association and the Greater Pittsburgh Press Photography Association.  He was a veteran of the Naval Reserves.

He is survived by three daughters, Jane Burlingame and her husband David, Erie; Shelly Ann Paulson, Sharon; and Connie Van Horn and her husband William, Charleston, South Carolina; two sons, Christian Gene Paulson, Berkley, California and Timothy David Paulson and his wife Mary Ann, Holland, PA; one brother, David E. Paulson and his wife Jackie, Houston, TX; twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Hope Love Womer and Claire Sarchet Van Horn; and his former wife, Carolyn Sarchet Paulson.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Community Library of the Shenango Valley, 11 North Sharpsville Ave., Sharon, PA  16146.

Calling Hours: In keeping with Gene's wishes, there will be no calling hours.

Services: A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 30th at 1:00 p.m. at the Sharon Elks Club, Lodge #103, 260 E. Connelly Blvd., Sharon, PA  16146
