Obituary

Louis M. Offie, Hall Avenue, Sharpsville, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 1:18 p.m. Monday, March 2, 2015, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage. He was 81. Louis was born March 21, 1933, in Sharon, one of three children born to Louis M. and Katheryn Osvath Offie. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1951. He served stateside with the Navy during the Korean War and received an honorabe discharge. In his early years, Lou worked at the former John Schuster's Steakhouse, Masury, where he began as a bartender and worked his way up to manager. He later worked for 27 years as a manager at the former Golden Dawn grocery store, located in the Thornton Hall building, Sharon. His last place of employment was Hermitage Wal-Mart, where he worked as a sales associate in several departments . He was a former member of Optimist International and Sharpsville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404. He was a Cleveland Browns fan and, in years past, he enjoyed golfing. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he always enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting and school events. His wife, the former Barbara A. Young, whom he married Sept. 7, 1957, survives at home. He also leaves: his two daughters, Luanne Shernisky, Hermitage; and Leslie L. Offie, Youngstown; a son, Michael J. Offie and his wife Noel, Copley, Ohio; a sister, Joanne McFarland, Hermitage; and three grandchildren, Louis Shernisky and his wife Rebekah; Terry Shernisky; and April Shernisky. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Offie, who passed away Jan. 20 of this year. Louis' family would like to thank the caring staff at Nugent's Convalescent Home for the wonderful care he received during his stay. We truly appreciated your special care.
