Louis Kimpan, 329 Frederick Dr., Farrell, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Thursday (11-26-09) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, following a brief illness. He was 87.
Mr. Kimpan was born October 14, 1922 in Sharpsville a son of the late John and Mary Angyus Kimpan.
He was a lifelong area resident and a 1942 alumnus of Sharpsville High School.
Mr. Kimpan retired from the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation where he was employed for more than 30 years.
He was a member of St. Anthony's Church, Sharon. Following his high school graduation, Mr. Kimpan served with honor in the US Army's 1st Cavalry Division, 27th Field Artillery Battalion, in the Pacific Theater during WWII. During his retirement, Lou enjoyed visiting with his family, traveling to Europe and hunting and fishing.
Surviving are: his wife of 64 years, the former Agnes Berdis of Greenville, whom he married November 17, 1945; two sons, Louis John Kimpan and his wife Jane, Dayton, Ohio; and Thomas Kimpan, Sheffield Lake, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Kimpan, David Kimpan and Rebecca Marcum; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; a sister-in-law, Sandy Kimpan, Sharpsville; and a brother-in-law, Andrew Velkey, Pensacola, FL.
Besides his parents, Lou was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Joseph Kimpan; and two sisters, Anne Velkey and Helen Sabo.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice. At Mr. Kimpan's request there are no calling hours.
