Obituary

Louis L. Davis of Transfer passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and family Tuesday afternoon, April 10, 2018, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was 78.

Mr. Davis was born March 14, 1940, in Sharon, a son of Alfred and Bessie (Brest) Davis. A lifelong area resident, he was a 1958 graduate of Mercer High School, Mercer, and later completed courses to earn his draftsman certification.

Lou was employed by General American Transportation Corp. (GATX), Masury, where he worked as a draftsman for 18 years. He later worked as a purchasing agent for Damascus Tube, Reynolds.

Lou enjoyed being outdoors, particularly while working in his garden, and was a longtime member of the Penn State Master Gardener Program, Mercer.

He was an avid EUCHRE player and actively belonged to many card playing clubs throughout his life.

A devout family man, Lou's greatest joy came from having his entire family together, especially for family celebrations, events and holidays.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Nancy Verholek, whom he married December 12, 1964; two daughters, Lisa (Daniel) Zigo, Hermitage, and Michelle (Carlos) Salgado, Harmony, PA; a son, Eric (Shannon) Davis, Pulaski; a brother, Harold (Grace) Davis, Mercer; five grandchildren; and a great grandchild.

Lou was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Alice Bethune; and three brothers, James, Paul, and Winfield Davis.

The family would like to thank the staff of UPMC Horizon Oncology Dept., in Farrell and Greenville, for the exceptional care they provided to Lou.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday (4-14-18) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at noon, in the funeral home, with Rev. Ken Martin, pastor of First Assembly of God, Hermitage, officiating.
