Lillie Summers, formerly of Sharon, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 2020, in The Grove at New Castle.  She was 97.

Lillie was born February 26, 1923, in Birmingham, Alabama, a daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Spallino) Smeraglia.  She moved to the area as a young girl and was a 1941 graduate of Sharon High School.
Having enlisted in 1943, Lillie served in the U.S. Army for 21 years during WWII, the Korean War and the Vietnam War and retired as a Master Sergeant.  She then worked for State Farm Insurance in Philadelphia for 15 years and later was employed by the Sharon Post Office and Reznor Manufacturing, Mercer.

She is survived by a sister, Jane Uretta, of Sharon; a brother, Louis Smeraglia and his wife Patricia; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Lillie was preceded in death by three sisters, Bonnie Smeraglia, Josephine Hennon and Nellie Davidson; and a brother, Frank Smeraglia.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Funeral service for Lillie will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2020, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. Stae St., Sharon, with Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, officiating.

Family will receive friends in the funeral home from noon until the time of service.

Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage.
