Obituary

Lillian V. Gress, formerly of Griswold St., Hermitage, passed away following an extended illness at 4:50 p.m. Monday, October 3, 2016, in Clepper Manor, Sharon, where she has resided for nearly three years.  She was 84.

Mrs. Gress was born January 11, 1932, in Canonsburg, PA, the eldest child of Alexander and Camille Wojciechoski Luba.  She was a lifelong area resident and a 1950 alumna of Hickory High School, Hermitage.

Lillian was employed by Mercer County in the Office of the Prothonotary and later in Domestic Relations.

She was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, and a former longtime member of St. Adalbert's Church, Farrell.

A homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting and knitting.  She loved teaching others how to knit and crochet and made many beautiful pieces she would give to family members.

Lillian married Joseph C. Gress on May 1, 1954 in St. Adalbert's Church and enjoyed 60 years of marriage until his passing on July 29, 2014. Years earlier, they were well known polka dancers.

Surviving are: two sons, Tom Gress and his wife Tanya; and Jim Gress and his wife Cindy, all Plantation, FL; and four grandchildren, Kyle Gress, also Plantation, FL; Megan Miller and her husband Eric, Pembroke Pines, FL; Caitlin Gress, Orlando, FL; and Samantha Gress Land O Lakes, FL.  She also leaves two brothers, Ronald Luba and his wife Shirley; and Robert Luba and his wife Mildred; and a brother-in-law, Daniel Stambaugh, all Jefferson Township; and several nieces and nephews, including Jackie Mudrak, also Jefferson Township, who helped care for Lillian in her final years.

Besides her husband, Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Carolyn Stambaugh.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Lupus Foundation of America, 2121 K St. NW, # 200, Washington, D.C. 20037.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today (
10-6-16 ) in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with the Rev. Jeffery J. Noble, pastor, as celebrant.  Interment: Holy Cross Cemetery, Hermitage.
