Lillian Genevieve Gewak, 96, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019, in the Hospice House, Poland, Ohio.

Lillian was born September 25, 1922, in Morrisville, PA, a daughter of the late John and Mary (Lewandowski) Kupiec and was one of nine children.  She graduated from Morrisville High School in 1941.

Lillian and her family lived in the Trenton, NJ area where her social life revolved around her children, brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.  Some of her favorite times were  family picnics drinking iced tea lemonade, long before Arnold Palmer's were popular, and spending summers at the "the shore."

In 1964, Lillian and her family moved to Warren, Ohio where she worked as a secretary in the surgical department of Trumbull Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1987.  She was an active member of St. Mary's Church, Warren, and its Altar and Rosary Society and the Camillus organization.

Lillian's life was filled with many passions.  She was an accomplished seamstress and loved being outside working in her yard.  If you stopped by her home you would know that she was an amazing cook as she would insist that she "fix you something."  Her specialties were spinach balls and, being Polish, her Christmas Eve pierogis – favorites of her granddaughters.  She was also an avid fan of sports, particularly professional tennis and the Cleveland Indians.  She did not care for Jack Nicklaus.

More than anything, Lillian loved her family.  Her pride and joy were her granddaughtersand great-grandchildren, who always brought out Lillian's beaming smile.

Lilian is survived by a son, Richard Gewak; a  daughter, Pati (Dr. Ted) Opalka, all of Warren, Ohio; two granddaughters, Elisabeth (Kevin) Kavanaugh, of Cohasset, MA and Emily Opalka (Anthony Cornicelli), of West Hollywood, CA; three great-grandchildren, Lillian, Kevin and Charlotte Kavanaugh; and many nieces and nephews.  Nieces Beverly (Doug) Sce, Barbara Kupiec, Teresa Wiater and Joan Wiater have never forgotten "Aunt Lil" and the family is most appreciative.

Besides her parents, Lillian was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and John Kupiec; 6 sisters, Josephine Rafalowski, Sophie Yeager, Lottie Wiater, Bertha Kross, Irene Martinetti and Mayme Borowski; and a granddaughter, Mary Katherine "Katie"Opalka.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Mary's Church, 232 Seneca Ave., NE, Warren, OH 44481; or to the Hospice House, 9083 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH  44514.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial was held in St. Mary's Church, Warren.  Interment: All Souls Cemetery.
