Obituary

Lewis Martin, 260 S. Buhl Farm Dr., Hermitage, passed away at 2:35 a.m. Friday (1-21-11) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, after a brief illness. He was 84.

Mr. Martin was born November 4, 1926 in Wheatland, PA a son of Daniel and Mary Molfa Martin.

He was a lifelong area resident and attended school in Farrell.

Mr. Martin retired in 1982 from the former Packard Electric Corporation, Warren, Ohio where he was employed for 25 years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. Lew loved music and was a professional harmonica player. He played with the Steel Valley Harmonica Club at many venues including: the Bavarian Fun Festival, the Hartford Apple Festival and wedding receptions. He served as a Sergeant with the US Army during WW II and was stationed in British Guyana South America where he met his wife.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Eunice B. Carew, whom he married June 1, 1947 in the former St. Elizabeth Church, Farrell; two daughters, Debbie Kresen and her husband Samuel, Pittsburgh; and Bonnie M. Phelan and her husband Frederick, Bethesda, MD; two sons, Dwayne P. Martin and his wife Dianne G., Anna Maria Island, Florida; and Lewis A. Martin, Columbus, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a sister, Minerva Kolsky, Farrell; and two sisters-in-law, Violet Moldovan, Hermitage; and Helen Moldovan, Sharon.

Besides his parents, Lew was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Joseph Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146. Calling hours are private.

Mass of Christian burial will be 1 p.m. Monday (1-24-11) in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.

Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage.

Committal prayers and military honor's rendered by the Sharon Honor Guard will be in St. Rose Cemetery chapel, Hermitage, immediately following the Mass.
