Obituary

Letha "Lee" A. Axtell, formerly of Sharon, passed away peacefully on Saturday (3-5-16) in Countryside Convalescent Home, Mercer, where she resided for the past three years. She was 92.

Mrs. Axtell was born Oct. 27, 1923, in Merchantville, NJ, a daughter of Clarence and Mildred Schultz Kuykendall.

Before moving to the area, Lee was employed in Washington, DC as a sales representative for Woodward & Lothrop and then as a "Rosie the Riveter" making jack boxes in the civil defense plant during WW II.

She later worked as a secretary for the family business, the former Axtell and Son Plumbing and Heating in Sharon.

Lee was an active member of Sharpsville Church of the Nazarene where she was Head Steward, sang in the choir and helped in the nursery and with children's church.

She enjoyed baking, shopping and spending time with her family. She also loved cats.

Her husband of 40 years, Harold R. Axtell, whom she married Oct. 15, 1945, passed away Nov. 1, 1985.

Surviving are: a daughter, Bonnie Stabile and her husband Dr. Mark Stabile, Hermitage; a son, Samuel Axtell and his wife Rose, Brookfield; eight grandchildren, Nicole Lombardi and her husband Joe; Michael Stabile and his wife Sandy; Dr. Mark Stabile and his wife Wendy; Sarah Tonty and her husband Adam; Kimberly Lordo and her husband Dr. Tony Lordo; Amanda Baird and her husband Ric; Samuel Axtell and his wife Tarryn; and Harold Scott Axtell and his wife Heather; 16 great grandchildren; and a brother, Wayne Kuykendall and his wife Rose, Sharon.

Besides her parents and husband, Lee was preceded in death by a brother, Bud Kuykendall and his wife Bernice.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude PL, Memphis, TN 38105; or Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. 8
th St., Erie, PA 16505.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016 , in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.


Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2016, in the funeral home with the Rev. Terri Weyman, officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
