Dr. Leonard John Lenhart Sr.

Dr. Leonard John Lenhart Sr., 92, a longtime resident of Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, in Marietta, Georgia, while visiting his daughter.

Born February 22, 1933, in Youngstown, Ohio, Leonard was the son of John and Mary (Waliga) Lenhart and was raised in Brookfield, Ohio. He graduated from Brookfield High School, where he was a standout athlete, serving as running back for the Brookfield High School football team and helping lead the team to an undefeated season. In recognition of his athletic achievements, he was inducted into the Brookfield Hall of Fame in 2014. He went on to earn his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic, dedicating his life to healing others.

As a chiropractor, Leonard believed healing came from listening, understanding the whole person, and trusting the body’s innate ability to heal. He formed deep, lasting relationships with his patients, giving each person the time and care they deserved. Leonard’s expertise and integrity were widely respected within the chiropractic community. He served two terms as president of the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Society, receiving the prestigious Elmer Harrison Award for his exemplary behavior as a chiropractor, humanitarian, and respected member of his community. He was later appointed by Gov. Tom Ridge to the Pennsylvania Board of Chiropractic Examiners. His caring and generous spirit led him to mentor several area doctors, many of whom launched successful careers through his guidance and support.

Leonard was known for his gentle, kind, and quietly observant nature. He carried himself with humility and grace, always putting others at ease and placing family first. These qualities shaped every part of his life and work, guiding how he listened, how he served, and how he loved.

Leonard’s strong faith was the foundation of his life. He was a founding member of St. Mark’s Orthodox Church in Youngstown, Ohio, where he served faithfully for most of his life. He later became a member of St. John’s Orthodox Church in Hermitage, Pennsylvania, before moving to Michigan and becoming a devoted member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church. His faith was lived quietly and consistently, reflected in his generosity, compassion, and unwavering sense of service.

At the center of Leonard’s life was his family. He shared 68 years of marriage with the love of his life, Marcia L. (Johnson) Lenhart, whom he married on April 14, 1955. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2023.

Leonard is survived by his children, Kathy Abraham (Dan), Karen ElGrissy (Albert), L. John Lenhart, and Elizabeth Lenhart; his brother, Kenneth Lenhart (Karen); six grandchildren, Alexandra David (Tom) and Adam ElGrissy (Devon), Trevor (Jamie) and Sean (Marylou) Lenhart, and Gabriella and Megan Sanchez; and three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Matthew, and Marin.

Leonard’s legacy lives on in the lives he healed, the family he loved, the professionals he mentored, and the quiet example of compassion and grace he carried throughout his life.

Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. to noon on Monday (2-2-26) in St. John’s Orthodox Church, 3180 Morefield Road, Hermitage. A funeral service will immediately follow at noon, in the church, with Father Michael Nasser and Father David Mastroberte, co-officiating.

Interment will follow in St. John’s Orthodox Cemetery, Hermitage.
