Leonard J. Kaletka of Lackawannock Twp. passed away at
5:25 a.m.
Sunday, March 6, 2016, in Clepper Manor, Sharon, after an extended illness. He was 89.
Mr. Kaletka was born December 2, 1926, in
New Kensington
,
PA
, a son of Albert and Pauline Maciak Kaletka.
He moved to the area as a child and was a 1944 graduate of Farrell High School.
Len served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Post # 160, Farrell.
"Whitey," as he was known by his colleagues, retired as a fitter from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. where he was employed for more than 40 years.
He was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex.
A standout athlete in his prime, he was a member of the Farrell High School varsity basketball team and the former Westinghouse softball team. He also enjoyed bowling, bocce and attending his grandchildren's and great grandchildren's sporting events.
Surviving are: his wife of 67 years, the former Charlene Moore, whom he married March 5, 1949; two daughters, Lennette Ediburn and her husband Larry, Reynolds; and Cheryl Ann Hassan, Sharon; a son, Leonard J. Kaletka, Hermitage; a sister, Jane Ruzich, Silver Springs, MD; five grandchildren, Kerri Sue Hartman and her husband Dan; Glenn Edwin Ediburn and his wife Rachel; Joseph Leonard Hassan and his wife Erin; Stephanie Hunyadi and her husband Tony; and Selena Kaletka; 9 great grandchildren, Brandon, Landon, Lacy Sue and Macy Hartman; Joey and Sammy Hassan; Sullivan and Max Hunyadi; and Wyatt Ediburn; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Tammy.
Len was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert Chester Kaletka and Walter A. Kaletka; a sister, Helen Ann Kaletka; a son-in-law, Joseph Hassan; and his mother-in-law, Suzanna Sobeck.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Church of the Good Shepherd, 3613 Sharon Rd., West Middlesex, PA 16159.

, in Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, with Msgr. Robert Malene, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage, with military honors rendered by the West Middlesex VFW, Wheatland American Legion and Farrell VFW Honor Guard.
