Leonard A. 'Lick' DeCapua, formerly of Whispering Oaks, Hermitage and a long time resident of Spencer Ave., Sharon, passed away at 4:05 p.m. Friday (3-20-09) in John XXIII Home, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage.
Mr. DeCapua was born February 14, 1917 in Farrell, PA the youngest son of the late Alphonso and Victoria Infante DeCapua.
A lifelong area resident, he was a 1938 graduate of Sharon High School.
Lick and his brother Sam owned and operated the former DeCapua Food Market on Spruce Ave. in Sharon for more than 50 years. During the 1950's they also owned and operated the former DeCapua Steak House in Hermitage, which is now Nick's Inn 62.
Following his retirement in 1980 Leonard returned to the workforce and was employed as a service Rep. for Gage and Co., Sharon; and later worked at Daffin's Candies for ten years, retiring in 2005 at the age of 88.
Lick was an active member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, where he was an adult altar server for funerals and a money counter. He and his wife also served as Pre-Cana instructors and mentors for engaged couples at the church and were members of Mercer County Pro Life. Earlier in his life he was a member and past president of St. Joseph Parochial Grade School PTA. Along with others, he organized the financial committee that was instrumental in raising funds for the construction of what is now Kennedy Catholic High School in Hermitage. He was one of the founding fathers of the Sharon Touchdown Club when his sons were playing football for Sharon High School. Lick was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sharon Council 684 and its 4th Degree, Sharon Assembly; a former member of the Kiwanis Club and the F.H. Buhl Club, both Sharon; and served on the advisory board at the Salvation Army, Sharon Corps. He was also a life member of the Italian Home Club, Farrell, and was an avid golfe!

Leonard was a wonderful man and will be remembered by many for his big smile and his role as Santa Clause at St. Joseph School, Notre Dame School, the Farrell Library and most recently, Whispering Oaks.
His wife, the former Margaret L. 'Peg' Brennan, whom he married September 1, 1941 in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, passed away October 17, 1996.
Surviving are: three daughters, Monica F. Bassett and her husband Jess H. Bassett, Jr., Hubbard, Ohio; Margaret B. 'Peggy' Satmare and her husband Gary A. Satmare, East Liverpool, Ohio; and Mariellen V. Gargano and her husband Marc A. Gargano, Hermitage; four sons, J. Leonard DeCapua and his wife Toni, Wilmington, DE; Paul M. DeCapua and his wife Rose, Hudson, Ohio; Mark X. DeCapua and his wife Becky, Copley, Ohio; and Dr. Jerome M. 'Jerry' DeCapua, Willow Creek, CA. He also leaves 18 grandchildren, Tony and Adam Bielobockie; Regina, Jarrod, Gregory and Michelle Satmare; Maria, Leah and Gianna Gargano; and Todd, Chris, Luke, Bethany, Evan, Joel, Jon, Aaron, and Raphael DeCapua; five great grandchildren, Giovanni, Lorenzo, Cecelia, Benjamin and Isabella; and special dear friends, Irene 'Babe' Moran and John Sasala.
Besides his parents and wife, Leonard was preceded in death by three sisters, Mayme Trombacco, Mary Tallarico and Bina Magnotto; four brothers, John, William, Leo and Sam DeCapua; and a granddaughter, Cara Gargano.
The family would like to thank the staff at John XXII Home and Whispering Oaks and Joyce Chisholm for their exceptional care during Leonard's illness.

Calling hours will be 4-8 p.m. Monday (3-23-09) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday (3-24-09) in St. Joseph Church, corner of E. State St. and Case Ave., Sharon, with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
