Obituary

Leona Jean Nemes of 4400 Clifford Dr, Hermitage, formerly of Maplewood Dr. South Pymatuning Twp., passed away at 6:15 a.m. on Sunday, January 29, 2012 in Sharon Regional Health Systems. She was 80.

Mrs. Nemes was born February 16, 1931 in Sharon, PA a daughter of Harold F. and Margaret Hegedus Boyer.

Leona was a 1949 graduate of Sharon High School. Mrs. Nemes was a loving homemaker for most of her life. After raising her children she was employed as a clerk at Greenwood Pharmacy. Mrs. Nemes retired in 1992 after 20 years working in the Tax Offices of the Mercer County Court House.

Mrs. Nemes was a member of the Church of Notre Dame. Leona throughout her life was very active in her children's lives and social functions. She was a member of the South Pymatuning PTA, where she held various positions on the board. Leona and her husband belonged to the former Bailando Dance Club and enjoyed Bowling on the Hickory VFW Saturday night couples league. She was a volunteer for Sharon Regional Health Systems, an active member with the Women's Auxiliary for the Hickory VFW Post 6166 and Sharon American Legion Post 299, and was a Democratic Committee Woman and election poll worker. In her spare time, Leona loved to travel around the country with her husband and family. She was an excellent cook and loved working in her garden. Most importantly, she was a loving wife and mother, her grandchildren and great grandchildren brightened her day.

Her husband, John Nemes, whom she married on November 4, 1950 in St. Joseph's Church, passed away on April 26, 2004.

She is survived by, 3 daughters, Jan and her husband District Judge Ron Antos of Hermitage, Judy and her husband Judge Robert Yeatts of Hermitage, and Jeannie and her husband Mark Taylor of Mechanicsburg; a son, John P. and his wife Linda Nemes of Hermitage; a sister, Shirley Straka of Youngstown, OH; 7 grandchildren, Kacie and her husband Ryan Poniatowski of Reston, VA, Robert J. and his wife Megan Yeatts of Hermitage, Michael Yeatts of Hermitage, PA, Jamie and her husband Gordon May of Mechanicsburg, Jerry Taylor of New Cumberland, PA, Joanie Taylor of Mechanicsburg, and David VanOrd of Grove City; 3 great grandchildren, Sydney May, Keira Poniatowski, and John Joseph 'JJ' Yeatts.

Besides her parents and husband, Leona was preceded in death by a brother, Harold R. Boyer.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. There will also be calling hours from 9:30 to 10:30 at the funeral home prior to leaving for mass on Wednesday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 in Church of Notre Dame with Rev. Jeffrey J. Noble

Interment will be in St. Rose Cemetery.
