Leona F. Jendrysik, 91, of New Castle passed away peacefully Monday morning, February 11, 2019, in Jameson Care Center.
Mrs. Jendrysik was born July 18, 1927, in New Castle, a daughter of the late George and Mary (Zombeck) Plonka. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1945 alumna of Union High School.
Leona retired in 1989 from Danish Pastry in New Castle, where she worked as a clerk and cake decorator for many years. She was previously employed by Johnson Bronze, also in New Castle.
Leona was an active member of St. Mary's Church – Mary Mother of Hope Parish, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild. Her joyous personality and infectious smile will be dearly missed at many of the church fundraising events. She especially enjoyed volunteering at the church's Summer Fest and Easter Fest.
Above all else, Leona loved spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Joseph J. Jendrysik, of Union Twp.; a daughter, Nancy L. Kolodziej, also of Union Twp.; three sisters, Bertha Iwanejko and Stella Mielcusny, both of New Castle, and Frances Koszela, of Hopewell, PA; and two grandchildren, Justin R. and Melissa N. Kolodziej, of New Castle.
In addition to her parents, Leona was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, Joseph, Louis, and Stanley Plonka; and two sisters, Clara Kurtz and Helen Kiel.
Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday (2-13-19) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday (2-14-19) in St. Mary's Church, 124 N. Beaver St., New Castle, with Rev. Victor J. Molka, Jr., as celebrant.
Interment will be in Madonna Cemetery, Union Twp.
