Obituary

Leo E. "Dutch" Carlin, 82, of New Castle, passed away unexpectedly on the evening of Saturday, February 18, 2017, in Grove City Medical Center.

Mr. Carlin was born May 25, 1934, in New Castle, a son of the late John P. and Julia Ann Sullivan Carlin. Dutch was a lifelong area resident and 1952 graduate of New Castle High School.

A banker, he retired after many years of service from the former Peoples Bank of New Castle. Following retirement he owned and operated two small businesses, The Dutch Treat in the Town Mall, and Cone & Shake in Mahoning Town.

Dutch was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Church, Mary Mother of Hope Parish.

He was currently serving on the Board of Directors of GNC Community Federal Credit Union, New Castle, and also as an appointee of the New Castle Airport Authority.

Surviving are: his wife, the former Rose M. Harvan, whom he married in 1975; three daughters, Diane Seamans and her husband, Wayne; Joyce Ann Carlin; and Christine Marino and her husband, Samuel; all of New Castle; and a son, James G. Farone and his wife, Marcia, of New Galilee, PA; a sister, Shirley O'Connor, of New Castle; eight grandchildren, Michelle Morelli; Colleen Anthony; Paul James Farone, Carl Farone; Denise Goswick; Matthew Carlin; Wayne Seamans; and Sarah Seamans; and 6 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Dutch was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Carlin; three brothers, Raymond, John and T. Francis Carlin; two sisters, Marie Sidnam; and Irene Glasstetter.

Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday (2-22-17) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Church, Mary Mother of Hope Parish, with Rev. William Siple, parochial vicar, as celebrant.

Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
