Lena Cilas Courtney, formerly of Hermitage, passed away at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4, 2012 in White Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Twp. She was 82.
Mrs. Courtney was born May 18, 1929 in Sharon a daughter of the late Anthony and Rose Yassall Cinicola.
She was a 1947 graduate of Sharon High School and attended Allegheny Community College.
Lena became a licensed cosmetologist at the age of 19 and owned and operated Lena Cilas Beauty Shop from her home for more than 29 years.
She was a member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. Lena had an amazing singing voice; a great sense of humor; and was a fabulous cook. She also loved art and interior decorating.
Her husband, Michael Cilas, whom she married in 1948, passed away in 1965.
Surviving are: a daughter, who resides in Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews, all whom she loved dearly.
Besides her parents and husband, Lena was preceded in death by two sons, Richard Cilas and Michael Anthony Cilas; six sisters, Minnie Skook, Virginia Hunyadi, Rose Marie Cinicola, Mary James, Lucille Van Tassel and Helen Szabo; and five brothers, Richard, Anthony, Ralph, Albert and Dominic Cinicola.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Cat Landers Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 27; or to the West Middlesex Area Historical Society, schoolhouse fund, P.O. Box 100, both West Middlesex, PA 16159.
