IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence V.
Wauzzinski
October 28, 1952 – March 3, 2025
Lawrence V. "Larry" Wauzzinski, 72, of Hermitage passed away peacefully early Monday morning, March 3, 2025, in UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell, following a brief illness.
Larry was born October 28, 1952, in Sharon, a son of the late Samuel (with whom he shared a birthday) and Helen (Ustik) Wauzzinski. He was a 1970 graduate of Kennedy Christian High School in Hermitage and attended Penn State University – Shenango Valley Campus.
A proud veteran, Larry enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Hospital Corpsman (Medic) for five years. During his service, he was stationed in Iceland where he truly enjoyed the natural beauty of the country and later was stationed at several military hospitals, most notably the Philadelphia Naval Hospital.
In 2008, Larry retired from the Pennsylvania Dept. of Corrections in Mercer following 30 years of service as a corrections officer.
A voracious reader, he also enjoyed playing golf, billiards, fishing, sailing and boating, and playing card games – particularly Black Jack, Euchre, and 500 Bid. Larry will be remembered for his willingness to help friends and neighbors.
He was a member of the Church of Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, where he actively volunteered for fundraisers and dinners.
Larry enjoyed working outside and took great pride in his property. He was known for having the "best cut lawn in the neighborhood."
His beloved wife of 42 years, Dorothy A. "Dolly" (Singer) Wauzzinski, whom he married October 2, 1982, survives at home. They traveled extensively and enjoyed a loving relationship.
He is also survived by his step-son, Jeffrey M. Mitchell (Serena), of Leesburg, FL; a daughter-in-law, Miriam McEvoy-Mitchell, of Grand Prairie, FL; three grandchildren, Michael Mitchell, Samantha Mitchell-Dishong (Casey), and Lucas Mitchell; and two great-grandchildren, Lane and Miles Dishong; all of Florida. He also leaves two brothers-in-law, Robert Singer (Eileen) and Edward Singer (Jenny), all of Pittsburgh, PA; three nephews, Eric R. Singer, Jason Singer, and Robert Singer, all of Pittsburgh; a niece, Dana Lynn, of Texas; three great-nephews, Dominic, Blake, and Landon; and a great-niece, Alana.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to any animal shelter of the donor's choosing; or Church of the Good Shepherd, 3613 Sharon Road, West Middlesex, PA 16159.
