"LaVaun 'Vonnie' Adele Wood, 519 Boyd Dr., Sharon, passed away peacefully at 1:09 a.m. Monday (12-5-11) at her residence with her sons by her side. She was 92.
Mrs. Wood was born December 13, 1918 in Wakonda, South Dakota a daughter of the late Arthur E. and Alice S. Christopherson Gray.
She was a 1936 alumna of Glasgow (MT) High School and in 1938 received a degree in Dental Hygiene from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN.
It was during her first job in Rochester, Minnesota when she met her husband, Benjamin J. Wood, MD and the two were married on January 4, 1941. Together, they moved to Sharon in 1947 where they raised their family. Dr. Wood was a prominent physician in the area until his untimely death on July 30, 1976.
Mrs. Wood was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, and its women's guild. She was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to many; a woman of impeccable character.
Surviving are five sons: Dr. Benjamin G. Wood and his wife Patricia, Beachwood, Ohio; Dr. Michael B. Wood and his wife Marilee, Rochester, MN; Dr. John R. Wood and his wife Christine, Roanoke, VA; Dr. Arthur P. Wood and his wife Beth, Greenville, SC; and Dr. David E. Wood and his wife Amy, Sharon; fifteen grandchildren, Bradley G., Benjamin J., Michael S., Hadley M., Benjamin D., Luke E., Alissa M., Adam P., Abbey L., Paul C., B. Elizabeth, Benjamin A., Lauren A. , Emily C. and Peter B.; nine great grandchildren; and a niece, Sharon Archambeault, Glasgow.
Besides her parents and husband, Mrs. Wood was preceded in death by a sister, Marleen Kellogg.
The Wood family would like to thank Sharon Regional Hospice Home Care for their exceptional care and compassion during their mother's illness.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday (12-10-11) in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant. Everyone is asked to go directly to the church.
