Obituary

Larry D. Manilla, 1325 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at 12:10 a.m. Saturday (7-30-11) in UPMC Hospital, Greenville, after an extended illness. He was 62.

Mr. Manilla was born October 3, 1948 in Sharon a son of Archie and Anita Bertelli Manilla.

He was a 1966 alumnus of Farrell High School and graduated with honors from Penn State University, University Park, PA with a bachelor's degree.

Larry retired from the Wheatland Tube Co. where he was employed for thirty years.

He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon; and a former member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell.

Larry was an avid sports fan and enjoyed working with kids. Years earlier, he was very involved with the Farrell-Wheatland Little League where he served as a coach and manager. He also helped in preparing the ball fields and tending to the players needs. Larry was a longtime member of the school board for the Farrell Area School District and, just recently, retired due to his health. During the 1990's he was instrumental in the success of the Farrell Boosters while working with former coach, Lou Falconi. Larry was a fan of the North Carolina Tar Heels and earlier in his life was a racquetball standout at the former F.H. Buhl Club in Sharon and the former Racquet Club in Sharpsville.

A devoted husband, father and son he is survived by: his wife, the former Annette Heutsche, whom he married June 14, 1980; a daughter, Teressa A. Manilla, at home; a son, Marcellino A. Manilla, Pittsburgh; his mother, Anita Manilla, Farrell; and two brothers, Ron Manilla and his wife Diana, Charlottesville, VA; and Jonathan Manilla and his wife JoAnn, Knoxville, TN. He also leaves numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law; cousins; and nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his father; and his father and mother-in-law, Bob and Anne Heutsche.

Larry will be remembered as a very giving man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday (8-1-11) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (8-2-11) in St. Joseph Church
