Larry John Haney, 77, of Portersville, passed away Tuesday afternoon, January 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with illness.

Born May 9, 1947, in New Castle, PA, he was the son of the late John and Florence (Socia) Haney. A lifelong resident of Lawrence County, Larry was a man deeply rooted in family, hard work, and quiet devotion. His presence was steady, his love unwavering, his actions always speaking louder than words.

Larry graduated from Laurel High School in 1965, and though his time in the classroom had long passed, he remained a familiar face at Laurel for decades. He found great joy in supporting his grandchildren at their many activities, always proud to be there for them.

After high school, Larry served his country in the United States Army. He was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, during the Vietnam War, serving with the same quiet dedication that he carried through every aspect of his life.

Upon returning home, he built a career defined by skill, precision, and perseverance. He spent 18 years in Ellwood City with U.S. Steel before spending 25 years as a machinist with General Electric in Grove City, retiring in 2009. But retirement never meant slowing down-Larry was a man who kept his hands busy, always building, always fixing, always working on a better future for his family.

On November 21, 1975, he married his beloved wife, Dorothy 'Dee' (Hill) Haney, and together they built a life rich with love, family, and countless cherished memories. They were inseparable, two hearts walking through life as one. Theirs was a love that didn't need grand gestures to be felt-it was steady, enduring, and ever-present in the way they cared for one another, in the effortless way they worked as a team, and in the quiet certainty that they were each other's foundation. To their children and grandchildren, they gave the greatest gift of all: a living testament to the power of love, partnership, and commitment-a steadfast example of what a true marriage should be, shared for nearly 50 years.

He is survived by his wife and their three children: Larry Haney (Lisa) of Rufn, NC; Daniel Haney (Shelly) of Portersville; and Missy Schnur (Todd) of Butler.

He was a proud grandfather to ten grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart: Hunter, Laura, Carter, John, Summer, Kendall, Sammie, Katie, Vanessa, and Brett.

He is also survived by his siblings: Mary Ann Hollerman (Jerry), James Haney (Terri), and Judy Wills-all of New Castle.

Family was at the heart of everything Larry did. Sunday dinners weren't just a tradition-they were a way of life. Week after week, he and Dee welcomed their children and grandchildren, gathering around the table and creating memories that will live on long after his passing.

Beyond his devotion to family, Larry found joy in the simple things-a crisp autumn morning in the woods, the warmth of a campfire surrounded by loved ones, the rumble of his Harley, and the satisfaction of crossing another state off his list. He and his wife fulfilled a lifelong dream of traveling through all 50 states on two wheels, sharing the journey with his sister Mary Ann and Jerry Hollerman.

Larry J. Haney was a man of quiet strength and unconditional love. He asked for little, gave without question, and built a life that will be remembered not just in words, but in his lasting imprint of devotion, hard work, and family-one that will endure for generations to come. Though the hands that once built, fixed, and lovingly held are now at rest, his spirit lives on in the hearts of those blessed to call him husband, father, and grandfather. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his love and legacy will forever guide those he cherished.
