Lamont L. Slack, Jr., of Hermitage, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his wife and four sons, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 25, 2018, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage. He was 85.
Mr. Slack was born March 4, 1933, in Newtown, PA, on the family farm, a son of the late Lamont L. Slack, Sr. and Irma (Buchman) Slack. He was a 1951 graduate of Council Rock High School in Newtown and a member of its state championship baseball team. He served with the U.S. Army as a Private First Class from 1958 to 1960 in Germany where he was a sharpshooter.
"Monty," as many knew him, was a dairy farmer in Newtown before moving to Hermitage in 1972 where he was employed by Perrine Oils in management and sales. He retired from Perrine's in 1989. He was a member of Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church in New Hope, PA. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, skiing, working in the yard and fixing anything mechanical. Monty also enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the Pymatuning Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club.
Surviving is his wife of 54 years, the former Joan Perrine, whom he married May 2, 1964; four sons, Kevin L. Slack and his wife Lee Anne, of Gibsonia, PA; Keith E. Slack, of Crownsville, MD; Kirk J. Slack, of Portland, OR; and Lamont L. Slack III, of Sharon; a grandson, whom he adored, Jared Lamont Slack, also of Gibsonia; and a brother, Carl E. Slack and his wife Janice, of Newtown.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Aron.
Monty was a quiet and loyal man with a deep love for his family.
Memorial contributions may be directed toward a charity of the donor's choice.
Calling hours will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Friday, December 28, 2018, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2018, in the funeral home, with Rev. Frank E. Hodges, pastor of Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage, officiating.
Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage.
