Obituary

Kirk Raymond Evans, 73, of Hartford, OH, passed away following a several year battle with cancer early Sunday morning, July 14, 2024, in Sharon Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Evans was born March 25, 1951, in Youngstown, OH, a son of Raymond and Audrey (Kirkland) Evans.
During one of our many talks I know Kirk shared the quintessential "this goes on my tombstone" remark, in jest. I cannot recall what, but I am certain it was sharp-witted and full of sass. Kirk did not mince words and always had a few jokes in the queue for any encounter, no matter the circumstance.

Kirk was preceded in passing by his mother, Audrey Kirkland Evans. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Morgan-Evans; sons, Shawn and Jason Morgan, and their wives, Monica and Melanie; and four grandchildren, Kyle Kizima, Darienne Morgan, Michael Morgan, and Jacob Morgan. He is also survived by his father, Raymond Evans; sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and David Dunn, their children, Cory and Jamie, their wives, Gulayse and Kelly; adopted sister and brother-in-law, Debra and Edward Smith and their daughter, Christian and son, Eddie Jr., as well as numerous grand nieces and nephews.

Kirk grew up in Boardman, Ohio and attended Boardman High School. Although he did not complete his college degree, that fact by no means encapsulates the power of his intellect. From tending bars and managing nightclubs to interstate trucking to touring with regional and national rock bands, his early adult life was marked by travel, adventure, and the company of good friends. He married Sandra on August 15, 1987. As he transitioned to married life with Sandra and her two sons, his attention turned to supporting home and family so all could thrive. He applied his talents to numerous home improvement projects and did anything he could to support his family: from operating his own contracting business to HVAC installation to annealing mill operator to computer systems support analyst (and that is the short list). Anything he set his mind to he excelled at doing and freely shared what he learned with others. Kirk was fiercely curious about the world and found humor in all things, sometimes at your expense, but never with maliciousness. Later in life, he developed deep passions for woodworking, online gaming, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. He built a complete, custom-made, Settlers of Catan board game out of choice hardwoods he had collected over the years so that he could play with Darienne, Michael, and Jacob during summer visits. Kirk was also a firm believer in the humane treatment of animals and deeply loved his dog, Bandit, and cat, Bella.

We are grateful to those who have reached out with love and condolences. Kirk did not wish to have a formal service; his cremated remains will be buried with a newly planted tree in the backyard of his home in Hartford, Ohio.
