Obituary

Kenneth W. "Bill" Splitstone, Sr., 89, of West Middlesex, passed away at 3:30 a.m. Friday, August 3, 2018, in Sharon Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Splitstone was born November 5, 1928, in Hickory Twp, a son of George L. Splitstone, Sr. and Elizabeth (Shollenberger) Splitstone. A lifelong area resident, he was a Korean War veteran serving with the US Army from November, 1947, until November, 1951.

Bill worked a short time at Wheatland Tube and later was employed as a heavy equipment operator for 40 years at Dunbar Slag, Hermitage, retiring in November of 1993. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post#7599, Reynolds; and was a member of the American Legion, Post#0432, Wheatland.

Bill attended Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church, Wheatland. He was a jack of all trades and a highly skilled woodworker. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, canning vegetables, cooking and meticulously caring for his garden.

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Jane Brown, whom he married on October 24, 1951; two daughters, Barbara Zirkle, Transfer; and Debra Tamber, Hermitage; a son, Kenneth W. Splitstone, Jr.; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Audrene Hoovler and her husband Howard, West Middlesex; and a brother, George L. Splitstone, Jr., Connecticut.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lydia Marie Splitstone and Louise Michael; and one brother, Carl E. Splitstone.

Calling hours will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Monday (08/06/2018) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with Rev. Mark Goswick, pastor of Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment: Morefield Cemetery, Hermitage.
