Kenneth A. Mitchell, 90, of Hermitage and formerly a longtime resident of Akron, OH, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, October 23, 2024, in Hermitage Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Mr. Mitchell was born January 31, 1934, in Penny, KY, a son of Clyde and Glossie (Compton) Mitchell. He earned his Bachelor's in Business Administration from Berea College, Berea, KY, and following graduation, honorably served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1958. Ken later earned a Master's in Education from the University of Kentucky.

For over 32 years, Ken served as an educator, primarily for Akron Public Schools. He began his career as a teacher and the last 21 years served as an elementary school principal, retiring in 1990. During retirement, he served as a Student Teaching Supervisor for the University of Akron and worked at Sears Hardware in Akron, OH.

An avid reader, Ken loved literature and working crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors tending to his yard and garden.

His wife of 61 years, Janet (Honecy) Mitchell, whom he married on June 15, 1963, survives at home.

Ken is also survived by a daughter, Jacalyn McCready (Wayne), Glen Burnie, MD; a son, Keith Mitchell (Heather Habig), Vallejo, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by a sister, Phyllis Mullins; and a brother, James Mitchell.
