Keith A. Purdie, 80, of Hermitage, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, March 11, 2026, in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness.
Keith was born March 18, 1945, in Sharon, a son of the late William and Catherine (Hostetter) Purdie, and graduated from Sharon High School in 1964.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was stationed in California serving as a tank mechanic during the Vietnam Era until his honorable discharge on December 12, 1967.
For 28 years, Keith owned and operated Membrane Roofers, Inc., Hermitage, specializing in commercial and industrial roofing. Full of entrepreneurial spirit, Keith had several ventures earlier in his life and co-owned the following businesses: Valley Carpet Care, Arctic Ice Company, and Pinball Wizard, while also managing several rental properties.
Kieth was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon.
He was an original member of the infamous “Tooters,” which included many of his dearest friends. This “membership” provided many of Keith’s greatest times and fondest memories.
Keith, who many may have known as “Crash,” in his younger years, had a lifelong passion for racing and was happiest when driving with the pedal to the metal. An avid enthusiast, he frequented Thompson Raceway to drive his ‘99 Chevy Camaro and ‘69 Chevy pick-up.
Keith loved being a “family man” and cherished the time he was able to spend with his children and grandchildren – especially while going for a swim.
His beloved and extremely tolerant wife of 52 years, Joan (Lucas) Purdie, whom he married February 2, 1974, survives at home.
Keith is also survived by two sons, Jake Purdie, Hermitage, and Jordan (Alyssa) Purdie, Masury, OH; a daughter, Krista (Andrew, Jr.) Totin, Sharpsville; two grandchildren, Joanna and Selena Totin; a sister, Jean Purdie, of California; and his beloved dog, Pearl.
In addition to his parents, Keith was preceded in death by his brother, John “Jack” Purdie.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to Stray Haven Animal Shelter, 94 Donation Road, Greenville, PA 16125.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday (3-21-26) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.McGonigleFuneralHomeandCrematory.com.
A memorial service will begin at 3 p.m. with Military Honors conducted by the Wheatland AL and West Middlesex VFW Honor Guard, followed by a time of sharing and reflection from family, friends, and loved ones.
