Obituary

Service will be Saturday for Kathryn E. Zickar of Hermitage, who passed away peacefully at 7 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2015, in the Sanctuary at Tuttle Crossing, Dublin, Ohio. She was 89. Kathryn was born April 20, 1925, in Sharon, a daughter of Andrew and Mary Kraynak Walko. She was raised in Sharpsville and was an alumna of Sharpsville High School. Her husband, Robert Zickar, whom she married Nov. 14, 1959, passed away May 10, 2002. Together they owned and operated Zickar's Pharmacy for 17 years on Main Street in Sharpsville and were well known for their delicious coffee stirs. Kathryn was previously employed at the former McDowell National Bank in downtown Sharon, where she worked as a bookkeeper. An active member of St. John's Orthodox Church, she belonged to its piroghi committee, Mothers and Daughters Club, and served as a church auditor in years past. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her three sisters, Mary Rowlands, Martha Solonika and Helen Laycock; and two brothers, Michael and Joseph Walko. She is survived by: her daughter, Julie Ann Gordon, and her son-in-law William J. Gordon; and her two grandchildren, William Ryan Gordon and Abigail Katherine Gordon. Contributions may be made in her memory to the building fund of St. John's Orthodox Church, 3180 Morefield Road, Hermitage, PA 16148. Calling hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (3-20-15) in J. BRADLEY MCGONIGLE FUNERAL HOME and CREMATORY Inc., 1090 E. State Street, Sharon, where a Panachida service will begin at 4 p.m. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday (3-21-15) in St. John's Orthodox Church, Morefield at South Hermitage roads, Hermitage, with the Rev. David Mastroberte, church pastor, and former pastor Monsignor Michael Polanichka concelebrating the liturgy. Interment: St. John's Orthodox Cemetery, Hermitage.
