Obituary

Kathryn Redmond, 1219 Webster St., Farrell, passed away peacefully at 12:01 a.m. Friday (9-3-10) in her home. She was 90.

Mrs. Redmond was born September 5, 1919 in Farrell a daughter of the late Frank and Elizabeth Straka Zurawsky.

She was a lifelong Farrell resident and a 1937 graduate of Farrell High School. Following graduation, Kathryn attended cosmetology school and worked as a hair stylist for two years.

She then became a homemaker and raised her children before returning to the work force. She was a Librarian at the former Eckles Elementary School, Farrell, and later worked in the Material Production Department at Farrell High School for many years before retiring in 1984. Kathryn was a lifelong member of the former Grace Lutheran Church, Farrell, where she was a Sunday School Teacher and active in the Missionary Society.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Hermitage, and participated with the ladies of the church as much as she was able. Kathryn was extremely generous with her time and talents. Besides her church activities, she was a longtime volunteer with Sr. Bonita at the Prince of Peace Center, Farrell; and with the Salvation Army Corp. in Sharon. Although she did not drive, she kept active. Kathryn participated with the Senior Sokol USA at the Slovak Home in Farrell and traveled to many cities to perform, including Chicago, Cincinatti and Toronto, Canada. She was an election official at Farrell High School on Election Day and had a fabulous crafting talent, one of which was making beautiful egg boutiques. Kathryn was the last surviving member of the VV Club which was a group of friends who met regularly.

Surviving are: a daughter, Patricia Kay Boldish and her husband Michael, Hermitage; two sons, William Thomas Redmond, Jr., North Carolina; and Floyd Michael 'Mickey' Redmond, Farrell; seven grandchildren, Dawn D'Orazio; Shawn Renshaw; Lisa Pfiester; and Vickie, April, Ian and Logan Redmond; 11 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by two sisters, Elizabeth Crisan and Bertha Wagner; and three brothers, George, Frank and Michael Zurawsky.

The family would like to thank the wonderful people from SRHS hospice for their kindness and exceptional care.
