Obituary

Kathryn M. "Katie" Miller, formerly of Jamestown, PA and St. Petersburg, FL, and a longtime resident of Sharon, passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon, January 9, 2019, in St. Joseph Hospital, Warren, OH. She was 96.

Mrs. Miller was born May 3, 1922, in Bessemer, PA, a daughter of the late C.V. and Ethel (Galbreath) Marshall. She was a 1940 alumna of Sharon High School where she began her lifelong passion for music and competed at the district and state level orchestra recitals. An accomplished cellist, she went on to win the state competition as a senior, and continued to play locally for several years, most notably in the Greenville Symphony, alongside Henry Mancini. Following high school, Kathryn attended the former Shenango Valley Commercial Institute in Sharon for secretarial and business studies.

She was hired by the former Sharon Transformer Div. of Westinghouse Electric Corp., and was secretary to W.W. Satterlee, head of the small systems engineering department. While at Westinghouse, Kathryn met her husband, the late Dr. C. Howard "Huck" Miller, and they were wed June 18, 1949. Kathryn continued working for Westinghouse in Des Moines, IA and later in Erie, PA, as the couple traveled the country for her husband's education.

After returning to the Shenango Valley, Kathryn directed her focus towards her family and her husband's new family medicine practice. She continued to manage the medical practice in Sharon, which later moved to Hermitage, for more than 30 years until her husband's retirement.

Kathryn was longtime – active member of First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, where she taught Sunday school and participated in Wishart's Circle, a women's bible study group.

She also belonged to the former Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital Auxiliary in Farrell.

Kathryn enjoyed a full life and had many interests. She especially liked traveling with her family, and went on a number of to various countries. Winters were spent snow skiing out west and throughout Europe. Kathryn enjoyed summers at Pymatuning Lake boating, water skiing and canning fruits and vegetables from her garden. She loved entertaining family and friends for the holidays and hosting parties for various special occasions. Kathryn was a talented cook and an exceptional baker, known for her homemade apple pie and angel food cake.

Her husband of 50 years, Dr. C. Howard "Huck" Miller, passed away January 22, 2000.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" Jurenovich and her husband Dr. Michael Jurenovich, and Susan Williams, all of Warren, OH; and three grandchildren, Charles Jurenovich, Dr. Katie Jurenovich and Sarah Williams.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kathryn was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Shilling; and a brother, David Marshall.

The family suggests memorial donations be directed to First Presbyterian Church, 600 E State St., Sharon, PA 16146.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday (1-19-18) in the Wilson Parlor located within First Presbyterian Church, Sharon.

Funeral service will be at noon Saturday, in the church, with Rev. Dr. Glenn Hink, senior pastor, officiating.

Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Hermitage.
