Kathryn C. Hughes of Sharpsville passed away at
3:25 p.m.
Thursday, March 30, 2017, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System, after a brief illness. She was 78.
Mrs. Hughes was born November 20, 1938, in Sharon, a daughter of Frank "Pop" and Kathryn C. Banish Steibly. A lifelong area resident, Kathy attended the former St. Ann's Parochial Grade School, Farrell, and was a 1956 graduate of Farrell High School.
She was employed for many years as a beautician at Elaine's Beauty Shop in Sharpsville and served as a school crossing guard at the corner of Main and Walnut Streets in Sharpsville. A devout Catholic, Kathy was a longtime active member of St. Bartholomew Church, Sharpsville, where she was a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) instructor for more than twenty years. She loved her church dearly and also liked watching Catholic religious programs on television. An exceptional homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, baking, holiday celebrations and spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, whom she adored. Kathy was a devoted wife and a loving and caring mother.
Her husband, Jack L. Hughes, whom she married March 8, 1958, passed away December 9, 2010.
Surviving are: four daughters, Carla A. Rupp, S. Pymatuning Township; Amy L. Rossi and her husband Joseph, also S. Pymatuning Township; Holly J. Hughes and her companion Anthony Kennedy, Sharon; and Mary K. Sharek and her husband Ken, Pittsburgh; a son, Keith A. Hughes and his wife Sherrie, Hermitage; 12 grandchildren, Chad, Cody, Kirk III, Kyle, Keeley, Matt, Isaiah, Colton, Evan, Jason, Anna and Chloe; 3 great grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as "GG," King, Amar and Carmella; three sisters, Dolores Toth, Hermitage; Lois Yukich, North Carolina; and Marilou D'Amico, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Christopher Rupp; a brother, Jerry Steibly; and a son-in-law, Kirk Rupp, Jr. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Bartholomew Church, 311 W. Ridge Ave., Sharpsville, PA 16150.
