Kathryn J. 'Joan' Blackburn, Hermitage, passed away peacefully with her husband at her side on Wednesday (11-23-11) at her residence at 7:57 p.m. following a brief illness. She was 74.
She was born July 21, 1937 in West Middlesex, Pa., the daughter of Thomas and Thelma Garrett Scott.
She was a member of West Middlesex High School's graduating class of 1955. Joan worked for more than 30 years in US Steel's Masury and Pittsburgh office as a secretary in their Engineering Department. She later gained employment as a manager with U Store It, a storage company in Boardman, Oh.
She belonged to the West Middlesex Presbyterian Church.
Joan enjoyed the simpler things in life such as tending to her yard and flower gardens, camping, cooking, or a friendly game of cards with her family.
A loving wife, aunt, sister, and friend, she will be sadly missed by all who loved her. Her husband Lynn R. 'Lenny' Blackburn whom she married on November 24, 1956, survives at home.
She also leaves a sister, Janet S. Webb of Farrell, formerly of West Middlesex, and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great, great nieces and nephews who she loved like her own children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Fred R. Webster, and Thomas C. Scott.

Calling hours: Friends and family will be received from 5:00 p.m. until time of service Monday (11-28-11) in the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory Inc. 1090 E. State St. Sharon.
Services: A memorial service will begin at 6:00 p.m. Monday (11-28-11) in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jason Hickman, pastor of West Middlesex Presbyterian Church officiating.
Interment: Cremation was chosen.
