Karl Dobler, 84, of Hermitage, passed away at 6 a.m. Wednesday, July 11, 2018, in Sharon Regional Medical Center, after a brief illness.
Mr. Dobler was born November 13, 1933, in Krndija, Yugoslavia, a son of the late Wendlin and Katharina (Grosseibl) Dobler.
He was educated in Austria and immigrated to the United States with his family in 1952.
Karl returned to Europe in 1959 where he met and married his wife, the former Anna Maria Kozlik, on July 29, 1959.
Once they were together in the United States, they had their wedding vows renewed on November 14, 1959 in St. Anthony's Church, Sharon.
Karl retired from the electric furnace department of Sharon Steels former Farrell plant where he was employed for 41 years.
He was an active member of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, and sang in its choir for many years.
Karl lived a remarkable life and was very proud of his German heritage.
As a child he experienced many adversities in Europe due to World War II and was grateful for the opportunity to come to the United States.
He was a life member of the Apollo Maennerchor Club in Sharon where he enjoyed more than 50 years of socializing and polka dancing with his wife.
He and his wife also traveled extensively throughout the United States, often times to destinations where they would meet with members of other Maennerchor clubs, and took numerous trips to Europe.
Years earlier, he was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years, Anna Dobler; a daughter, Caroline Covert and her husband Wayne, Hermitage; two sons, Erich J. Dobler and his wife Sandra, Gallatin, TN; and Steven N. Dobler and his wife Karen, Cortland, OH; five grandchildren, Paige Poprocky and her husband Zachary; Regan and Claire Covert; and Ethan and Sydney Dobler; four step grandchildren, Jody Trumbull, Gary and Robert Fennel and Heather Smithson; 7 step great grandchildren; and 6 great great step grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Karl was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Dobler; a sister, Maria Mireiter; and a step brother, Johann Piocker.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Church of the Good Shepherd, 3613 Sharon Rd., West Middlesex, PA 16159.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Mass of Christian burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, in Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex, with Rev. Glenn R. Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery mausoleum, Hermitage.
