Karen Joyce Vorlage Scheid

GCC graduate was a gifted artist, decorator and avid bridge player.

Karen Joyce Vorlage Scheid, formerly of Stone Ridge Blvd., Hermitage and the New Wilmington Area died at Sharon Regional Hospital after an extended illness on the evening of Friday, May 20 ^th , 2016.  She was 76.

A resident of Western Pennsylvania all her life, Mrs. Scheid was born in Pittsburgh on July 24, 1939 to the late W. Lee Vorlage and Ethel Martha Sleighter Vorlage.

She married Walter E. "Wally" Scheid on June 18, 1960, who currently resides in Youngsville, PA.

Karen was a 1961 alumna of Grove City College and did graduate work at Penn State University.  In her younger years she taught at the Grove City Junior High School, served as an executive secretary at Westminster College, and worked at the New Wilmington post office.  She enjoyed being a homemaker in her later years.

She was a gifted artist who loved slate painting, water colors, redecorating and restoring.  She was also an avid reader and bridge player, but more than anything enjoyed the company of her family.  Karen was a member of the Hickory United Methodist Church, Hermitage.

Surviving in addition to her husband are a son, Eric Scheid and his wife Cindy of Warren, PA.; a daughter Jody Scheid Kind and her husband Dean of the Slippery Rock area; two grandsons, three great grandsons, and a brother William L. Vorlage and wife Rosalie of Fort Collins, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Hickory United Methodist Church, 240 N. Hermitage Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148 or to the Sharon Regional Health System Hospice & Palliative Care, 1955 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, PA 16148.
