Karen Marie Johnson, 68, of New Castle passed away surrounded by her family and loved ones late Monday evening, August 12, 2024, in UPMC Hamot Hospital in Erie, PA.

Karen was born November 25, 1955, in Ellwood City, a daughter of the late Dominic D. "Mimi" and Mary Jane "Mitzi" (Miller) Suppa, and graduated from Ellwood City Lincoln High School in 1973.

For more than 28 years, Karen was employed by Liberty Mutual Insurance in New Castle, retiring as a Senior Customer Service Representative in October of 2021. She was currently working part-time as an office administrator at the Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle.

Karen was a member of the Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle – St. Mary's Church, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister.

In addition to playing dominos and bingo, she loved to spend time with her close and dear friends.

The greatest joy of Karen's life was becoming "Grammie" to her beloved grandchildren, Amelia, Giuliana, and Zachary.

Her husband of 44 years, Russell "Speedy" Johnson, whom she married April 12, 1980, survives at their home in New Castle.

Karen is also survived by three children, Jason Johnson, Mesa, AZ; and her twins, Justin Johnson (Christina), Mars, PA, and Jordan Snyder, Sharpsville; three grandchildren, Ameilia, Giuliana, and Zachary; one sister, Diane "Deedy" Vetica (Chris), Ellwood City, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Holy Spirit Parish of New Castle, 910 S. Mercer St., New Castle, PA 16101.

Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday (8-16-24) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 9 a.m. Saturday (8-17-24) at Holy Spirit Parish – St. Mary's Church, 124 N. Beaver St., New Castle, with Rev. Ben Barr, as celebrant.
