Obituary
Karen A. Donato, of Sharon, passed away unexpectedly at 2:14 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2018, in UPMC Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. She was 65.
Mrs. Donato was born May 31, 1953, in Sharon, a daughter of the late William and Helen (Zubych) Hether. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1971 graduate of Farrell High School.
Karen was employed as a manager at Baskin-Robbins in Hermitage for many years and previously worked at the former Shenango Inn, Sharon.
A homemaker, she was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon. Karen enjoyed dancing and was a member of the "Toast of the Town," a senior tap-dancing group that performed with the Senior Follies. She was also one of the original "Georgie Girls" at the Holiday Inn in Hermitage when the Thomas family owned it. Karen was a devoted grandmother and loved attending all of her grandchildren's scholastic and athletic events. They were the focal point in her life.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Donato, whom she married March 10, 1984; a daughter, Danette Shannon and her husband Michael, of Liberty Township, Ohio; five grandchildren, whom she adored, Kayla, Megan an Matthew Donato; and Delaney and Chelsea Shannon; a sister, Marilyn Bossick and her husband Robert, of Mogadore, Ohio; a brother, David Hether; a daughter-in-law, Jennie Donato, of Sharpsville; and two brothers-in-law, William Donato, also of Liberty Township, Ohio; and John Williams, of Sharon; and nieces and nephews, Kristen Ewing, Adrienne Donato, Greg Bossick, Zak Williams and Emily Williams.
Besides her parents, Karen was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Toni Williams.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
There are no calling hours.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
