Obituary

Karen Ann Brennan, 800 Linden Street, formerly of Fabian Way, Sharon, passed away unexpectedly at 1:28 p.m. Wednesday (6-24-15) in Allegheny General Hospital following a brief illness. She was 58. Karen was born January 21, 1957 in Sharon, the daughter of Ronald P. and Lois Scragg Brennan. She was a lifelong area resident and graduated from Sharon High School. She also graduated from Youngstown State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. Karen worked for Meals on Wheels as her first line of work and later found employment with the Verland Foundation. She later worked as a Residential Program Director for the Arc of Mercer County, a cook for Nugent Convalescent Home in Hermitage, and her last employment was with the State Correctional Institution, Mercer. She was a former member of St. Joseph's Church, Sharon. Karen knew her way around the kitchen and had a passion for cooking and baking. Her husband Richard Rice whom she married November 6,1982, passed away in 1990. She is survived by a sister, Margaret I. Johnson and her husband Robert P., two brothers, Daniel M. Brennan and his wife Susan, and Dr. Ronald P. Brennan and his wife Monica, a close friend Irene Pelic, ten nieces and nephews, one great niece and one great nephew, and her devoted loving pet dog Kupcake whom she loved dearly. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Stayhaven Animal Shelter 94 Donation Rd, Greenville, PA 16125. Calling hours: None, cremation has taken place. Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday (7-2-15) in St. Joseph's Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor as celebrant. Internment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
