Obituary

June Lightner of 3095 E. State St., Hermitage, passed away unexpectedly at 12:48 p.m. Friday (12-24-10) in her home. She was 76.

Ms. Lightner was born June 19, 1934, in the Juniata area near Altoona, Pa., as the ninth of 12 children to John Earl and Minnie Belle Fisher.

June move to the Shenango Valley in 1953 and had resided at her current address since that time. She was a wonderful homemaker her entire life, and at times, was a personal caregiver to those who needed her. A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she always put her family first; she will be sadly missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by: her daughter, Sally Steen and her husband Gerald, Hermitage; her three sons, Scott Lightner and his companion Twila Custer, Farrell; Mark Lightner and his wife Kerri, Austintown, Ohio; and Paul Lightner and his wife Kimberly, Hermitage; 11 grandchildren, Steven Steen and his wife Mary, Sharpsville; Jeffrey, Jerry and Kevin Steen, all Hermitage; Jennifer Groce and her husband Jared, Hartstown, Pa.; Lance Cpl. Erik Lightner and his wife Destiny, Camp Jackson, S.C.; Kendal and Andrew Lightner, Austintown; Zachary and Trever Lightner, Hermitage; and Jacob Lighter, Bakersfield, Calif.; and eight great-grandchildren. June also leaves: three brothers, Charles Fisher, Bedford, Pa.; John Fisher and his wife Judy, Altoona, Pa.; and Dennis Fisher and his wife Angie, Jacksonville, N.C.; and two sisters, Lil Heffner, Hamburg, Pa.; and Barbara Nichols, Cincinnati, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her three brothers, Donald, Wayne and Paul; her three sisters, Arlene, Kate and Vita; her son, Bruce 'Smokey' Lightner; and her former husband, Ronald Lightner. A poem for our grandmother: 'God looked around His garden and found an empty space, then He looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest, God's garden must be beautiful, He only takes the best.'

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
