Obituary

Julio Armando Anleu of New Castle, Pa., and Metairie, La., passed away tragically in an automobile accident while traveling with his mother and sister in Jefferson City, Tenn. He was 63. Julio was born Feb. 28, 1950, in Chichicastenango, Guatemala, a son of Julio Armando and Gracia Gil Anleu. Following high school, Julio began his college career at San Carlos University, studying architecture. He went on to obtain a degree in drafting from Delgado University in New Orleans. Mr. Anleu was the owner of numerous properties throughout New Castle and the New Orleans area. He was a member of St. Mary Church of Mary, Mother of Hope Parish in New Castle and St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Metairie, where he was involved in many activities, such as bingo and helping out in the kitchen during many of the parish events. Julio was a member of the Hoyt Center for the Arts and volunteered at swimming events at the New Castle Community Y. He collected antique cars and was a past member of the New Castle Historical Society. Most importantly, he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Julio is survived by his wife, Ana Dolores Mendoza Anleu, whom he married March 25, 1977; a daughter, Annette Jacqueline Anleu and her husband, Cory Jerome Warner, of New Castle; a sister, Edda Anleu of Guatemala City, Guatemala; two brothers, Carlos Haroldo Anleu and his wife, Claudia, and Mario Arnoldo Anleu and his wife, Luisa, both of Guatemala City; and a grandson, Jonah Warner. Julio was at every event cheering for Jonah. He was preceded in death by his father. Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at the J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, 111 W. Falls St. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, in St. Mary Church, with the Rev. William P. Siple officiating. Everyone is asked to go directly to church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hoyt Center for the Arts, 124 E. Leasure Ave., New Castle, Pa. 16101; the New Castle Community Y for aquatics or swim team at 20 W. Washington St., New Castle, Pa. 16101; or the New Castle Junior and Senior High School marching band, 300 E. Lincoln Ave., New Castle, Pa. 16101.
