Obituary

Julian J. "Jay" Senko, a longtime resident of Hermitage passed away at 10:25 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2019, in St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage, after an extended illness.  He was 89.

Mr. Senko was born August 17, 1929, in McKeesport, PA, a son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Leshner) Senko.  He was a 1947 graduate of McKeesport High School and earned his bachelor's degree from Penn State University in 1952.  Following his graduation from college, Jay served in Korea with the U.S. Marine Corp.  He was employed as a medical service representative with Parke-Davis and Company for 38 years, retiring in 1991.

Jay was a charter member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, and served on its finance council and building committee.  He was a member and past president of the Serra Club of Mercer County and St. John XXIII Home board of directors.  He also served on Catholic Charities board of directors.  In recognition of his dedication to the church and community, he was bestowed by Papal authority as a Knight of the Order of St. Gregory the Great.

His first wife, the former Aurelia Adams, whom he married July 6, 1957, passed away August 9, 1967.

Surviving are: his wife of 50 years, the former Suzanne Driscoll, whom he married September 30, 1968; a daughter, M. Julia Dodds and her husband Gregory, of Suffield, CT; two sons, Robert N. Senko and his wife Christine, of Concord, NH, and John M. Senko and his wife Valerie, of Akron, OH; and eight grandchildren, William A. Dodds and his wife Allison, Andrew E. Dodds, Timothy A. Dodds, Allison M. Senko, Adam J. Senko, Emily A. Senko, Nicholas R. Senko and Ryan C. Senko.

Besides his parents and first wife, Jay was preceded in death by five sisters, Julia Senko, Cecille Hein, Anne Yablonsky, Vera Hartle and Valerie Domitrovic.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Church of Notre Dame, 2325 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148; St. John XXIII Home, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, PA 16148; or Prince of Peace Center, 502 Darr Ave., Farrell, PA 16121.

Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2019, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2019, in the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage, with the Very Rev. Richard J. Allen, E.V., pastor, as celebrant.

Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
