Julia Metz, Hermitage, passed away at 10:24 a.m. Monday (1-25-10) in UPMC Hospital, Farrell, surrounded by her loving family. She was 93.
Mrs. Metz was born January 18, 1917 in Sharon a daughter of the late Michael and Barbara Matsko Lucas.
She was a lifelong area resident and a 1935 graduate of Sharon High School.
Julia began her career at the former Sharon Transformer Division of the Westinghouse Electric Corporation where she was an executive secretary for five years.
She and her husband later co-owned the former Metz Baking Co., Farrell, for more than 30 years and retired in 1980.
Julia was an active member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, and a member of its Ladies Social Club. She was an avid gardener; and loved traveling, music, her family and her church.
Her husband, Joseph K. Metz, whom she married November 15, 1942, passed away April 19, 1989.
Surviving are: three daughters, Monica Metz-Wiseman and her husband Claude Wiseman, Tampa, FL; Eileen Metz, Pittsburgh; and Patricia Metz, also Tampa, FL; two grandchildren, Sean K. Wiseman and Dane P. Wiseman, both Tampa, FL; two sisters, Irene Kasbee and her husband Charles, West Palm Beach, FL; and Madeline Murray and her husband G.B. 'Toot' Murray, Hermitage; a brother-in-law, Nicholas Fabish, Cranberry Twp. Butler County, PA; a son-in-law, Donald F. Donahue of New York, NY; and many loving nieces and nephews who affectionately called her 'Aunt Jay'.
Besides her parents and husband, Julia was preceded in death by two daughters, Juanita Metz and Cynthia Metz Donahue; two sisters, Mary Sinkus (Michael); and Helen Fabish; and a brother, Paul Lucas who died in combat during WW II.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Church, 2230 Highland Rd., Hermitage, PA 16148.
Special gratitude is extended to Julia's caretakers, Mary Jane Stull, Mary Jane Fair and Shirley Moose for their loving care and support.
Calling hours will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday (1-29-10) and 9:30-10:15 a.m. Saturday in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon. A Parastas service will be 4:30 p.m. Friday (1-29-10) in the funeral home.
Divine Liturgy will be 11 a.m. Saturday (1-30-10) in St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, with the Rev. John Cuccaro, pastor, as celebrant. A Panachida service will be at 10:15 a.m. Saturday (1-30-10) in the funeral home before going to the church.
Interment: St. Michael Cemetery, Hermitage.
