Judith A. Silverman, 89, of Neshannock Twp. passed away late Wednesday evening, April 3, 2024, in UPMC Jameson Hospital.
Mrs. Silverman was born March 13, 1935, in New Castle, PA, a daughter of the late Morris I. and Annabelle (Prinsky) Storch. A 1952 graduate of New Castle High School, Judy graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Carnegie Institute of Technology in 1956.
For many years, Judy worked alongside her husband, Lee, as Vice President and Secretary of Klafter's, Inc., in New Castle. She also owned and operated the Bears, Wares, and Other Collectables gift store.
Judy was a longtime member of Temple Hadar Israel in New Castle, where she was Past President of the Temple Board and the Temple Israel Sisterhood Board.
For decades, Judy played an integral role in the New Castle Community by serving and volunteering for various organizations, most notably: President of New Castle Rotary Anns, executive board member of Lawrence Co. Chamber of Commerce; and served as a board member of Lawrence Co. Economic Development, Tourist Promotion Association, and New Visions.
For her dedication to philanthropy and volunteerism, Judy received the First Lady of New Castle Award in 1989, the Butz Humanitarian Award in 2019, and the Oneness of Lawrence Co. Award in recognition for community service with her husband, Lee, in 2023.
Her husband of 67 years, Lee M. Silverman, whom she married May 27, 1956, preceded her in death November 21, 2023.
Judy is survived by two sons, Dr. Richard Silverman, Boston, MA, and D. Randy Silverman (Renee), of Neshannock Twp.; and two granddaughters, Ava Silverman, New York, NY, and Margo Silverman, Neshannock Twp.
In addition to her parents and husband, Judy was preceded in death by a son, Robert Silverman; and a sister, Priscilla "Cookie" Slone.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be directed to the Jack Butz Humanitarian Scholarship Endowment Fund, c/o Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern OH, 7 W. State St. #301, Sharon, PA 16146; or the New Castle Playhouse, 202 East Long Ave., New Castle, PA 16101.
The Silverman family would like to express their gratitude to Amy and the ladies of Golden Hearts for their exceptional care and kindness.
Calling hours will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday (4-7-24) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 111 W. Falls St., New Castle.
A funeral service will be held immediately following at 2 p.m., in the funeral home, with Rabbi Frank Muller, presiding.
Interment: Temple Israel Memorial Park, Neshannock Twp.
