Obituary

Judith P. "Judi" Banas, 70, of Sharpsville passed away peacefully Sunday, December 9, 2018, in her residence.

Mrs. Banas was born January 31, 1948, in Sharon, a daughter of John and Sophia (Pasco) Sobey. She was a 1965 graduate of Sharon High School and matriculated to Clarion University of Pennsylvania, Clarion, PA. Judi graduated from Clarion with a Bachelor of Education degree in 1969. She later completed her graduate studies at Slippery Rock University, Slippery Rock, PA, earning a Master of Education.  She was also a longtime member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International for women educators.

First and foremost, Judi was devoted to her family. She was a loving wife and mother.

A proud educator, Judi taught at Sharpsville Elementary School for 39 ½ years, retiring in 2008. Throughout her tenure, she was able to touch the lives of many students and faculty alike. To those of you who had given her gifts throughout the years, they can still be found adorned around her home. Her passion for teaching came second only to the students she had the opportunity to teach.

A devout catholic, Judi was an active member of the Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage. She also volunteered for the Shenango Valley Meals on Wheels program at Christ Lutheran Church, Sharon.

Her husband of 46 years, Robert L. Banas, whom she married August 5, 1972, survives at St. John XXIII Home, Hermitage.

She is also survived by two sons, Timothy Banas, Transfer, and Jeffery Banas and his wife Rena Donatelli, Raleigh, N.C.; and a brother, James Sobey, Sharon.

Judi was preceded in death by her parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made in her name to a worthy cause.
