Joyce Ann Reardon, 85, of Sharon passed away at 10:35 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018, in St. Paul's, West Salem Twp., where she was a resident for approximately two months, following a brief illness.
Mrs. Reardon was born November 30, 1932, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Frank and Eunice (Fitzgerald) Smith. She attended the former Sacred Heart Parochial Grade School, Sharon, and was a 1950 alumna of Sharon High School. Joyce attended Thiel College, Greenville, and, prior to her marriage, was employed at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.
Her husband, John J. Reardon, whom she married June 6, 1953, passed away July 13, 1999.
A homemaker, she was an active member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, where she was a Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) instructor for 32 years and a Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults instructor (RCIA). She also volunteered at St. Joseph School cafeteria where she taught a cooking class; and was a Girl Scout Troop leader for many years. Joyce was a recipient of the St. Anne CCGF award which is given to adults who model the highest ideals for young people. Active in the community, she was an ESL (English Second Language) instructor thru the literacy council and a volunteer at the Prince of Peace Center in Farrell. Joyce was a ward clerk at UPMC Horizon Hospital, Farrell, for nearly twenty years.
She enjoyed baking, cross-stitch, calligraphy and playing cards.
She is survived by five daughters, Julia E. Riordan, of Sharon; Maureen T. McQuown and her husband Timothy, of Newton, Mass.; Cecelia A. Reardon, of Manassas, Va.; Kathleen M. Hassanzadeh and her husband Shahin, of Fairfax, Va.; and Carrie J. Reardon, also of Manassas, Va.; eight grandchildren, Sara and Adam Giglio; Alison McQuown; Jessica and Mackenzie Hassanzadeh; John Reardon, Chelsea Barrell and Katey Reardon; 8 great grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine Moore, of Jamestown, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Julie Reardon, of Sharon; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by a son, John J. Reardon; and a sister, Jean Warwick.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 4, 2018, in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 E. State St., Sharon.
Funeral Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 5, 2018, in St. Joseph Church, Sharon.
Interment: St. Rose Cemetery, Hermitage.
