Obituary

Josephine 'Peppy' Mastrian, formerly of Hamilton Ave., Farrell, passed away at 11:21 a.m. Tuesday (7-19-11) in John XXIII Home, Hermitage, of complications from Alzheimer's disease. She was 89.

Mrs. Mastrian was born August 2, 1921 in Farrell a daughter of the late Giuseppe and Assunta Raimondi Lombardo.

A lifelong area resident, she was a 1939 graduate of Farrell High School and attended the former Shenango Valley Commercial Institute in downtown Sharon.

Following high school, Peppy began working at the former California Confectionary store, Farrell, and then became a secretary at Farrell Junior High School in 1942. She then worked for a couple of years at the former Myer Franks Furniture Store in Farrell before joining the accounting department at the former Sharon Store where she was employed for twenty years. Peppy retired in 1984 after working for more than 15 years at Our Lady of Fatima Church and Msgr. Geno Monti Parochial Grade School, both Farrell.

She was a lifelong charter member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell. She was very active at the church and was a member of the Mt. Carmel Society; the Altar and Rosary Society; and the Bethony Club where she was an officer for many years. Peppy enjoyed card playing and belonged to the Laf-A-Bit and No Name card clubs. She was a troop leader for the Girl Scouts of America during the late 1950's and was the recipient of the prestigious Mater Dei award. She was also a member of the Sharon Store Retiree's. Peppy's main love, however, was her family. Her husband, children and grandchildren were the central part of her life and she was their number one supporter. She loved cooking and baking for them and, along with her husband, enjoyed attending their scholastic and athletic events. Her love of family and holiday traditions has been instilled in them as they continue their journey through life. She was also well known for her organizational abilities and could plan an!

ything from family parties to large group Las Vegas trips. Peppy and her husband were avid travelers and vacationed in Alaska, Hawaii and from Maine to Florida. Her favorite family vacation spot for 55 years, however, was in Canada. She and her family would spend a week there on a lake where she enjoyed soaking in the sunset over the water. She also accompanied her husband on many occasions as he fished the many local waterways. One of her favorite pastimes was playing the slot machines in Las Vegas.

Surviving are: her husband of 69 years, Patrick Mastrian, whom she married June 27, 1942 in the former St. Anthony's Church in Farrell; a daughter, Patricia Nezovich and her husband Thomas, Parma, Ohio; three sons, Daniel Mastrian and his wife Mary Ann, Bel Air, MD; Anthony Mastrian and his wife Linda, Clark; and Patrick Mastrian and his wife Diane, Hermitage; nine grandchildren, Faith Nezovich and her companion Sam Mazzola, Parma, Ohio; Peter and Jennifer Nezovich, Lakewood, Ohio; Stacey Mastrian and her fiancé Guillaume Tourniaire, Bethesda, MD; Daniel and Nina Mastrian, Bellevue, WA; Anthony Mastrian and his fiancé Katie Giardina, Pittsburgh; Nicholas Mastrian, also Pittsburgh; Leah Mastrian, Hermitage; Patrick Mastrian, III, Lewes, DE; and Vincent Mastrian, Hermitage; three great grandchildren, Spencer Nezovich, Sadie Josephine Nezovich and Laila Sophia Mastrian. She also leaves two sisters, Rose Latsko, Farrell; and Mary Manilla, Sharon; two brothers, Norman Lombardo an!

Besides her parents, Peppy was preceded in death by a brother, Albert 'Cookie' Lombardo; and two brothers-in-law, Thomas Latsko and Bernard Manilla.

The family would like to thank the entire staff at John XXIII Home; the nursing staff at UPMC; and Dr. Fred Uberti for their exceptional care.
