Josephine Caruso, formerly of Farrell, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Monday (Dec. 10, 2018) in Clepper Manor, Sharon. She was 102.
Mrs. Caruso was born Feb. 15, 1916, in Derry, Pa., a daughter of the late Carmine and Concetta (Agresti) Salandria.
She was raised in Farrell and attended Farrell schools.
A homemaker, Josephine was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon, and a former member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell.
She enjoyed singing and was a vocalist in the former Sam Campagna Orchestra.
Her husband, Henry M. "Boots" Caruso, whom she married Nov. 24, 1934, passed away March 12, 1979.
Surviving are: a daughter-in-law, Joyce E. Caruso, of Hubbard; two granddaughters, Lauren Avram and husband John, of Westminster, Colo., and Elisa Mossgrove and husband Scott, of Indiana, Pa.; four great-grandchildren, Ryan Elizabeth Avram and Caroline Elise Avram, both of Westminster, Dane Henry Mossgrove, of Findlay, Ohio, and Rachael Anne Mossgrove, a student at Grove City College; three sisters, Ermenia "Millie" Gondak, of Fairless Hills, Sadie Validzich and husband Joseph, of Hermitage and Floretta Guanciale, of Clearwater, Fla.; and several loving nieces and nephews and their families.
Besides her parents and husband, Josephine was preceded in death by: her son, Henry "Hank" A. Caruso; three sisters, Margaret Crago, Louise Kromka and Sadie Salandria, who died in infancy; and five brothers, Patsy, Steve, Joseph, Daniel and Harry Salandria.
The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to St. Joseph Church, 79 Case Ave., Sharon, PA 16146; or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday (12-13-18) in St. Joseph Church, Sharon, with the Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment: America's Cemetery, Hermitage.
