Joseph Sember, 96, of Hermitage, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away Thursday evening, October 25, 2018, in Saint John XXIII Home, Hermitage.
Mr. Sember was born January 10, 1922, in Vanderbilt, PA, a son of Peter and Anna (Zeka) Sember. He was a 1940 graduate of Dunbar High School, Connellsville, PA. Following high school, he moved to the Shenango Valley where he began working as a welder at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. Joe later enlisted in the US Army for four years serving during WWII, and he earned the rank of tech sergeant. Upon his honorable discharge, Joe returned home and continued his employment at Westinghouse until he retired in 1984.
He was a member of St. Joseph Church, Sharon; and the Hickory VFW Post# 6166, Hermitage. Joe was a sports fan and an avid golfer. He golfed nearly every day. He also participated in a bowling league at Thornton Hall bowling alley for many years. Joe was a meticulous landscaper and took pride in his grass, flowers and garden. Above all, he looked forward to family dinners and was very proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.
His wife of nearly 60 years, the former Ellen June Morris, whom he married December 21, 1944, passed away December 5, 2004.
He is survived by two daughters, Barbara McGiffin, Plant City, FL; and Debra Bellich and her husband Sam, Hermitage; a brother, Eugene Sember and his wife Liz, Scottdale, PA; five grandchildren, Jennifer Herrington, Plant City; Jonathan Auchter and his wife Gretchen, Chicago, IL; Joseph Auchter and his wife Hoa, San Antonio, TX; Kristina Smith and her husband Zach, Slippery Rock, PA; Nicole Farragher and her husband Charlie, North Ridgeville, OH; and seven great grandchildren, Savannah, Declan and Braden Herrington; Mirabelle, Michael and Nam Auchter; and Samantha Smith.
In addition to his wife, Joe was preceded in death his parents; a son-in-law, Carey McGiffin; two sisters, Irene Yenco and Joan Kvaka; and three brothers, Theodore, John and Andrew Sember.

Calling hours will be 9 to 10:30 a.m. Friday (11/2/2018) in J. Bradley McGonigle Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1090 East State St., Sharon. ?
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday in St. Rose Cemetery Chapel, 779 Dutch Lane, Hermitage, with Rev. Thomas Whitman, pastor of St. Joseph Church, as celebrant.
Entombment: St. Rose Cemetery Mausoleum, Hermitage.
