A funeral service for family and friends will be held Wednesday for Joseph John Segada of 1999 Rettig Drive, Hermitage. He passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010, in UPMC Horizon, Farrell. He was 90.
Mr. Segada was born November 1, 1919, in Manor, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Julia Kashezah Segada.
Mr. Segada fondly recollected his days in the CCC ? Civilian Conservation Corps. He traveled the country working on various public works projects. He was a veteran of World War II enlisting in the Navy as a Yeoman, first class. He was responsible for decoding documents for Admiral Nemitz and his staff. His service included submarine duty in the South Pacific including Hawaii and Australia.
He graduated from Youngstown State College and completed post graduate work at Westminster College. He was an accountant by trade. He served as Comptroller for the former Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital during the 1960's and 70's. Additionally, he worked for the FH Pilgrim Company, Youngstown, OH. In the 1980s he moved to the Buffalo New York area with his wife Ann and beloved son James. While there, he worked at the former Millard Fillmore Hospital. During that time he traveled to Chezoslovakia to learn about his heritage first hand. In 2005 he moved to Louisville, Kentucky and returned to Pennsylvania in 2009.
He was one of the founding members of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage.
His passion was his family. His hobbies included vegetable gardening, baseball and bowling. He was a great father and loving husband.
His dear wife, the former Ann March, whom he married in 1941, passed away April 4, 2009.
He leaves: two daughters, JoAnn Jones, Hermitage; and Linda Nitch and her husband Gary, New Castle, a son, James J. Segada and his wife Lynn, Houston, Tx; six grandchildren, Shelly DeMay, Heather Greathouse, Jennifer Santiago, Nicholas Segada, Matthew Segada and Catherine Segada; and two great-grandchildren, Paydon and Timothy Greathouse; and several nieces and nephews.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John, George and Michael; his sisters Ann Gjavor and Mary Clifton; his brother and sister-in-law George and Mary Schnur; and a son-in-law, Robert F. Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Buhl Park Corp. and sent to Buhl Park, Box 709, 730 Forker Blvd., Sharon, PA 16146. Please write Joseph J Segada in the memo of the check.

Services: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday (6-09-10) in the Church of Notre Dame 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage Pa. with Rev. Jeffery J. Noble, pastor as the celebrant. A procession will leave the funeral home for the church at 2:00 p.m.
Interment: St. Mary's Cemetery, Hermitage with full military honors provided by the honor guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars West Middlesex Post 6233, Farrell Post 5286, and the Wheatland American Legion Post 432.
